Common Name: Chinese Ulmeiro (also Chinese Zelcova)
Scientific name: Ulmus Parvifolia
Characterization: Originating from China, Korea and Japan, belongs to the family of the Ulmaceas.
Also known as Zelcova Chinese, is a small, semi-caduca or caduca leaf Bonsai.
Much appreciated in Bonsai for its fine branching, bark (create "squams" with age) and easy modeling.
Location: Ideally likes to live abroad (where you can behave like a caduca leaf tree, in more rigorous winters), being that, if grown inside, with good sun exposure and without climatization, also adapts.
It lives in good condition in both locations, essential to catch 2 to 3 hours of direct sun per day, and if inside it is always next to a window without curtains or blinds.
Water: To water abundantly the earth until a lot of water goes out through the drain holes in order to moisten evenly the soil, always above never by immersion, with a fine drain waterer.
Tips on watering, see technical data collection.
The consumption of water depends heavily on the vegetative state in which it is found, having high consumptions when it presents new leaf, which become more moderate with the "mature" of the leaf.
Let dry the surface layer of the soil between each watering (to confirm if the plant already needs water, touch the earth with the fingers).
If you have a dish under Bonsai, never leave any water in it (to prevent the roots from rotting).
There is no advantage in spraying the leaves, just do it in days that it adds and if the fertilizer is specific for foliar application, but ensure that they arrive dry at night to avoid fungi.
Nutrition: From February to October/November, with a base plan composed of a complete fertilizer (Fertil Bonsai Humic, or Green & Gold Bonsai Organic or Biogold), and a biostimulant (Bio Bonsai Activ), can still be linked with other products in our range.
Detailed information on how to combine these products the rest of our range, or for a more specific nutrition plan, see complete nutrition plan technical sheet.
Poda: Forming can be done at the end of the winter before sprouting, or in summer after a defoliation. The maintenance pruning should be made as new leaves appear, leaving 5 to 6 sheets and then cutting for the first or second.
Tips on pruning, see the technical sheet pruning and defoliation.
Transplantation: With Terra Bonsai Folhosas in late January after frosts, before starting sprouting always with a strong pruning, or in summer with total defoliation.
Details about transplantation, post transplantation and specific fortifiers that you can use refer to repotting technical sheet.
Pluming: It can be padded all year, usually with strong pruning or defoliation.
Indications on padding, see wiring technical sheet.
