The transplant process in Bonsai is one of the phases that requires more sensitivity, both in terms of its performance and in the care to be taken after it.

Supported by horticultural and artistic methods specific to the Bonsai technique, it is indispensable for the healthy development of the tree.

It is not obligatory to exchange the vase in each transplant, we should only do so when we remove the old soil and cut the roots realize that the free space will not be enough for healthy development until the next time of transplantation.

The older the plant is, the smaller the “auments” of vase, but we must always respect the intervals of soil replacement.

In some cases we may even have to opt for a reduction of the vase, opting for one that fits better aesthetically, the vase used has always to be specific to Bonsai, because only these gather the physical and chemical characteristics indispensable to the maintenance and survival of Bonsai.

Given that, as a rule, the plant is still in the original soil, we advise you to transplant your Bonsai at the next time of transplantation following your acquisition.

At the time of the transplant you must strongly prun the plant, in some species, depending on the height of the year, you may even have to remove all the leaves, always taking advantage of this operation to model the plant, through the pruning and in some varieties we can even place wires if necessary.

Theoretically the Transplant should be carried out about two years in leafy plants and three in three for conifers. From January to March for species of exterior and double location and from April to June for the species of interior (see more personalized indications in the specification of the species).

The necessary material for the transplant is:

 Pot

Drainage networks

Fixing rods

Soil indicated for the species

Rhiza Bonsai Plus

Scissors for pruning the canopy and scissors for rotting roots

Plier cuts roots (if we are to cut very thick roots)

Bio Bonsai Activ (for post transplant)

The first step is to prepare the vase by putting nets to cover the drain holes and fixing wires, so that we can hold the plant after transplant (during about 3 months), so we will ensure that the plant will not get the roots exposed to the air caused by a venval or other process.

We put a "mountain" of substrate in the center of the vase, on the same we spread Rhiza Bonsai Plus
and on this hill we will put next the tree.

Then we begin by completely removing the old soil, which is already worn out, without the ability to drain excess water, retain nutrients and allow breathing of the roots.

For this purpose there are specific tools (dark and scarifier) of different dimensions, we will physically remove it from the earth, with the use of strong jets of water to facilitate the removal of it.

During the transplant, the state of health of the roots of the plant is analyzed and about 1/3 of its roots will be cut (depending on the state of the plant).

The cutting of the roots should be done with disinfected and well sharp tools, which do not "mastigue" or exhaust the roots.

The cut will allow to create space for the plant to develop to the next transplant and will stimulate the root division.

We place the plant in the previously prepared vase, with the help of a shopstick "we eliminate" the empty spaces between the roots we put there the substrate and we fasten the fixing wires in order to stabilize the plant.

After transplantation, the plant should be watered abundantly with water and Bio Bonsai Activ which will be kept in the post transplant phase.

Although it may seem complicated, transplantation when performed by an experienced person and a healthy plant is a virtually risk-free process.

Care after transplant

After transplanting your Bonsai, for about a month you should:

Protect it from the direct sun in the hours of strong sun.

Protect him from the strong winds.

Reducing attention with the watering, not allowing the plant to pass for long periods of thirst, but letting the surface layer of the soil dry slightly between waterings, so that the roots of the plant can breathe and do not rot by excess water.

Interrupting the adubation process, only starting it when the plant demonstrates that it has resumed its normal growth (never start to grow before 30 days elapsed).

Apply Bio Bonsai Activ
in post transplant frequency (approximately 1 x week), which will facilitate the production of new roots.
