Tillandsias are epiphytic aerial plants that absorb water and nutrients through the leaves because they do not have roots, are commonly known as “Air plants” or “desert flowers”.
They belong to the family of the Bromelias (they are the family of pineapple) and as these their life cycle is based on growth, flowering and subsequent production of new buds of the axillas of the leaves of the mother plant.
The mother plant will provide food, until the new buds have grown and can separate from this (which ends up drying), in some varieties the new "sons" grow together as "tufos" can always be divided individually.
They are from South and Central America, populated deserts, forests and mountains, and most inhabit the treetops, and may also exist on rocks or on the ground.
They should be located in the interior well exposed to light with some sun, but protected from the strong sun. During the warm months may be abroad, protected from the strong sun.
They are extremely resistant plants, very used in decoration, be it simple (only plants) either by assembly in glue, based on silicone neutral ideally specific for plants, or by fixing them with wires, cords or simply by fitting them into all kinds of surfaces, except iron that gain rust.
For its maintenance it is enough to spray 1 to 2 times a week (more in the summer, if the winter has humidity it is not sprayed until the plants need water) and adubadas fortnightly with a balanced fertilizer (Ex- Fertil-Bonsai) diluted to 25%, this is 1/4 of the recommended normal dose for Bonsai.
In the warm months, every time the plants allow it, they can be submerged 1x a week for a few minutes in water in order to have a complete hydration. Except in the assemblies, as it can rot the part of the wood, moss, etc.
Give it to your imagination, chances are endless!
