The 3 to 6 mm size is the most used in most Bonsai, whether pure or mixed with other components to make specific substrates.

Akadama from the Ibaraki Brand - Hard Quality, very resistant.

It has a neutral P.H., is sterilized free of seeds and weeds, and due to its physical characteristics it does not clump (does not form mud).


In Japan, it is used to plant all deciduous and evergreen leafy species, and it is also mixed with Kiryuzuna to increase moisture retention in some conifers (e.g., Juniperus).

Akadama is also widely used in aquariums (planted aquariums).
