Zanthoxylum Bonsai 21 years
A species from Madagascar is part of the family of the Rutaceans.
The Zanthoxylum Bonsai has deciduous leaves, composed, bright greens, which by being pruned emanate a citric smell.
It is also called Operculicarya, blooms in male plants and female plants, without easy dimorphism between gender. It is rare in Bonsai to bear fruit but to achieve it we have to have a plant of each.
The Zanthoxylum Bonsai is a dulpa location plant.
Common Name: Zanthoxylum and Chinese Pepper
Scientific name: Zanthoxylum Piperitum
Characterization: It is part of the family of the Rutaceans.
Medium-sized tree, with deciduous leaves, composed, bright greens, which by being pruned lay a citric smell.
It is also called Operculicarya and blooms with male plants and female plants without easy dimorphism between gender. In Bonsai it is rare to bear fruit, but to achieve it we have to have a plant of each kind.
Location: You can live all year abroad, being caduca. If grown inside, it is likely that in the middle of the summer you want to renew the leaf.
It should not be very protected in air-conditioned environments and either too sun, minimum 2 to 3 hours a day (ideal at the beginning or end of the day), rotate the tree 180° weekly.
Water: To water abundantly the earth until a lot of water goes out through the drain holes in order to moisten evenly the soil, always above never by immersion, with a fine drain waterer.
Tips on watering, see technical data collection.
Let dry the surface layer of the soil between each watering (to confirm if the plant already needs water, touch the earth with the fingers).
It tends with excess water/fall of light to suffer from root rot, especially after strong pruning, when we should moderate the watering more until it restarts the budding.
If you have a dish under Bonsai, never leave any water in it (to prevent the roots from rotting).
There is no advantage in spraying the leaves, just do it in days that it adds and if the fertilizer is specific for foliar application, but ensure that they arrive dry at night to avoid fungi.
Nutrition: From February to October/November, with a base plan composed of a complete fertilizer (Fertil Bonsai Humic, or Green & Gold Bonsai Organic or Biogold), and a biostimulant (Bio Bonsai Activ), can still be linked with other products in our range.
Detailed information on how to combine these products the rest of our range, or for a more specific nutrition plan, see complete nutrition plan technical sheet.
Poda: It is always made above the axle of a composite leaf. When grown in the interior, it is usual in summer to give a strong formation pruning for it to fold with new leaf.
Tips on pruning, see the technical sheet pruning and defoliation.
Transplant: With Terra Bonsai Folhosas in February/March, before the start of the budding and with strong pruning.
Details about transplants, post transplants and specific fortifiers that you can use refer to repotting technical sheet.
Scratch: It can be crowded all year.
Indications on padding, see wiring technical sheet.
