Characterization : Originating from Southwest China, it belongs to the Boraginaceae family.
A small-sized tree with slow growth, persistent leaves highly valued for their lush green color.
It produces a white flower which can be followed by a fruit. There are 2 varieties, the large-leaf (Macrophyla) and the small-leaf (microphyla), the latter fruits more easily.
Location : Indoors next to a window (maximum distance 50 cm), without curtains or blinds, where it receives 2 to 3 hours of direct sunlight per day, being rotated 180° weekly, away from heat sources or air conditioning. It can spend the warm months outside but does not tolerate temperatures below 12°C.
Watering : Water the soil abundantly until plenty of water comes out of the drainage holes, to evenly moisten the soil, always from above never by immersion, using a watering can with fine holes.
Tips on watering, consult the watering technical sheet.
Allow the surface layer of the soil to dry well between waterings (to confirm if the plant needs water, touch the soil with your fingers). It does not have a high water consumption.
They are sensitive to root fungi if subjected to excess water and/or lack of light.
If you have a plate under the Bonsai, never leave any water in it (to prevent the roots from rotting).
Nutrition : From February to November, with a base plan consisting of a complete fertilizer (Fertil Bonsai Humic, or Green & Gold Bonsai Organic or Biogold), and a biostimulant (Bio Bonsai Activ), which can also be combined with other products from our range.
Detailed information on how to combine these products with others from our range, or for a more specific nutrition plan, consult the complete nutrition plan technical sheet.
Pruning: It has slow growth and its leaves stay beautiful for a long time; we should control new shoots as soon as they reach the desired size to obtain "compact" plants.
Tips on pruning, consult the pruning and defoliation technical sheet.
Repotting : Using Terra Bonsai Folhosas in April/May, with pruning and/or partial defoliation.
Details about repotting, post-repotting care and specific fortifiers you can use can be found in the repotting technical sheet.
