Citrus Myrtifolia Bonsai 12 years old

The Bonsai Citrus Myrtifolia is an evergreen tree with oval leaves about 3 cm long, in a bright green shade.

It is highly appreciated for its very fragrant flowering, followed by fruits about 2 to 2 cm in diameter, which remain on the plant for a long period, giving it a very attractive appearance.

It likes sun and good exposure, and should live outdoors all year round. It can live indoors, provided there is no air conditioning and plenty of sunlight (e.g., balconies).

The Bonsai Citrus Myrtifolia is an outdoor plant.

Common Name: Citrus Myrtifolia

Scientific Name: Citrus Myrtifolia

Characterization: Belongs to the Rutaceae family, it can be found all along the Mediterranean Coast with great prominence in Italy, where it is known as "Chinotto" and gives rise to a drink with the same name. It is also widely used to flavor alcoholic beverages and provides the traditional flavor of the Campari aperitif.

The name Myrtifolia refers to the fact that its evergreen leaf resembles the shape of Myrtle leaves. Its abundant and very fragrant flowers in Spring produce a small orange (2 to 3 cm in size) that is green in Summer and bright orange in Autumn/Winter.

Location: In Mediterranean and mild climates, it should live outdoors all year round as long as it is protected from strong winds and frost. It needs at least 2 to 3 hours of direct sunlight and should be rotated 180° weekly.

In areas with harsher winters, it is advisable to protect it during the coldest months indoors but without any type of heating (e.g., a sunroom), near a window well exposed to the sun with a minimum of 2 to 3 hours of sunlight. It should also be rotated 180° weekly.

Watering: Water the soil abundantly until a lot of water drains out of the drainage holes, to evenly moisten the soil, always from above and never by immersion, using a watering can with fine holes.

Tips about watering, consult the technical sheet watering.

Allow the surface layer of soil to dry slightly between each watering (to check if the plant needs water, touch the soil with your fingers).

If you have a tray under the Bonsai, never leave any water in it (to prevent root rot).

There is no benefit to misting the leaves; only do so on days when you fertilize and if the fertilizer is for foliar application, but ensure the leaves dry by night to avoid fungi.

Nutrition: From February to October/November, follow a basic plan consisting of a complete fertilizer (Fertil Bonsai Humic, or Green & Gold Bonsai Organic, or Biogold), and a biostimulant (Bio Bonsai Activ), which can also be combined with other products from our range.

Detailed information on how to combine these products with others from our range, or for a more specific nutrition plan, consult the complete nutrition plan technical sheet.

Pruning: Let it grow 6 to 8 leaves, then reduce it by the first leaves.

Tips about pruning, consult the pruning and defoliation technical sheet.

Transplanting: With Terra Bonsai Folhosas in February/March, with strong partial defoliation.

Details about transplanting, post-transplant care, and specific fortifiers you can use, consult the transplanting technical sheet.

Wiring: Can be wired all year round.

Instructions about wiring, consult the wiring technical sheet.
