21-year-old Buxus Harlandii Bonsai
Species originating from Asia (China, Japan, Korea) belongs to the Buxaceae family.
It is an evergreen Bonsai with compact leaves and slow growth; the beauty of its trunk, silver in color with thick, cracked bark, is its main attraction.
The Buxus Harlandii Bonsai is a plant for dual positioning.
Common Name: Buxus Harlandii
Scientific Name: Buxus Harlandii
Description: Native to Hong Kong, it is a species that belongs to the Buxaceae family.
This evergreen bonsai is known for its dense foliage and small oval dark green leaves, which give it a very elegant and distinctive appearance.
The flowering of Buxus Harlandii occurs in early spring, with small yellow flowers that, although discreet, add a special charm to the plant. Its wood is hard and resistant, making it ideal for bonsai shaping.
Location: It can live indoors next to a window well exposed to the sun with a minimum of 2 to 3 hours daily and without air conditioning, where it should be rotated 180° weekly.
It can also live outdoors all year round as long as it is protected from strong winds and frost; it is very sensitive to lack of direct sunlight.
Watering: Water the soil abundantly until plenty of water comes out of the drainage holes, to moisten the soil evenly, always from above never by immersion, using a watering can with fine outlets.
Tips about watering, see the watering technical sheet.
Let the top layer of soil dry slightly between each watering (to confirm if the plant needs water, touch the soil with your fingers).
If you have a tray under the bonsai, never leave any water in it (to prevent the roots from rotting).
There is no advantage in misting the leaves; only do it on days when you fertilize and if the fertilizer is for foliar application, but make sure the leaves dry by night to avoid fungi.
Nutrition: From February to October/November, with a basic plan composed of a complete fertilizer (Fertil Bonsai Humic, or Green & Gold Bonsai Organic or Biogold), and a biostimulant (Bio Bonsai Activ), which can also be combined with other products from our range.
Detailed information on how to combine these products with the rest of our range, or for a more specific nutrition plan, see the complete nutrition plan technical sheet.
Pruning: Let 6 to 8 leaves grow, then cut back to the first leaves.
Tips about pruning, see the pruning and defoliation technical sheet.
Repotting: With Leafy Bonsai Soil in February/March, with strong pruning.
Details about repotting, post-repotting care and specific fortifiers you can use are in the repotting technical sheet.
Wiring: Can be wired all year round.
Instructions about wiring, see the wiring technical sheet.
