Common Name: Cuphea
Scientific Name: Cuphea Hyssopifolia
Description: Originating from Central America (Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala), it belongs to the Asparagaceae family, it is an evergreen shrub, highly appreciated for its continuous flowering in a vibrant fuchsia tone.
Location: It can live indoors near a window well exposed to the sun with a minimum of 2 to 3 hours daily and without air conditioning, where it should be rotated 180° weekly.
It can also live outdoors all year round as long as it is protected from strong winds and frost; it is very sensitive to lack of direct sunlight.
Watering: Water the soil abundantly until a good amount of water runs out through the drainage holes, to evenly moisten the soil, always from above, never by immersion, using a watering can with fine holes.
For watering tips, consult the watering technical sheet.
Let the top layer of soil dry slightly between each watering (to check if the plant needs water, touch the soil with your fingers).
If you have a tray under the Bonsai, never leave any water in it (to prevent the roots from rotting).
There is no benefit in misting the leaves; only do it on days when you fertilize and if the fertilizer is for foliar application, but ensure the leaves dry by nightfall to avoid fungi.
Nutrition: From February to October/November, with a basic plan composed of a complete fertilizer (Fertil Bonsai Humic, or Green & Gold Bonsai Organic or Biogold), and a biostimulant throughout the year (Bio Bonsai Activ), which can also be combined with other products from our range.
Detailed information on how to combine these products with others from our range, or for a more specific nutrition plan, please consult the complete nutrition plan technical sheet.
Pruning: In order to "bring closer" the flowers that appear at the tips of the branches, we regularly need to prune heavily, up to the beginning of the branching. Normally, we let the plant grow away from the original shape to produce many flowers, and when it starts to become misshapen, prune heavily.
For pruning tips, consult the pruning and defoliation technical sheet.
Transplant: With Bonsai Leafy Soil in February/March, with strong partial defoliation.
Details about transplanting, post-transplant care, and specific fortifiers you can use can be found in the transplant technical sheet.
Wiring: Can be wired all year round.
For wiring instructions, please consult the wiring technical sheet.
