Common Name: Pseudolarix

Scientific Name: Pseudolarix Amabilis

Characterization: Member of the Pinaceae family, it originates from China.

A small-sized tree, it has the special characteristic of being a deciduous conifer; the needles turn yellow in winter and fall completely.

Its bark is also particularly beautiful, being grayish and developing cracks over the years.

Location: Outdoors, well exposed to the sun where it receives 2 to 3 hours of direct sunlight per day (ideally in the morning or late afternoon), protected from strong winds and frost.

At the peak of summer, it should be protected from the strongest sun hours (a shade net is usually sufficient) to avoid burning the new needles.

Watering: Water the soil abundantly until a lot of water comes out of the drainage holes, in order to evenly moisten the soil, always from above never by immersion, using a watering can with fine holes.

Let the surface layer of the soil dry between each watering (to confirm if the plant already needs water, touch the soil with your fingers). It consumes water moderately, although special attention should be paid in summer, as the new needles dry quickly when thirsty.

If you have a tray under the Bonsai, never leave any water in it (to prevent the roots from rotting).

There is no advantage in spraying the leaves; only do so on days you fertilize and if the fertilizer is specific for foliar application, but ensure the leaves dry by night to avoid fungi.

Nutrition: From February to September, with a base plan composed of a complete fertilizer (Fertil Bonsai Humic, or Green & Gold Bonsai Organic or Biogold), and a biostimulant throughout the year (Bio Bonsai Activ), which can also be combined with other products from our range.

Pruning: Formation pruning can be done at the end of winter when the tree is leafless. Maintenance pruning is done by cutting above a new bud, which can be easily identified near the new needles.
