Common Name: Pomegranate Tree
Scientific Name: Punica Granatum
Description: Belongs to the Punicaceae family and originates from the Mediterranean.
The "Nana" variety is widely used in Bonsai, has deciduous leaves, and blooms abundantly from Spring, producing fruit at the end of Summer.
Punica Granatum Nejikan is a Japanese variety, highly valued not only for its twisted trunk but also for its large fruits.
Location: It should live outdoors all year round, where it receives 2 to 3 hours of direct sunlight daily (ideally in the morning or late afternoon), protected from strong winds and frost. It prefers sunny exposures but should be protected from strong summer sun at the peak to prevent fruit loss.
Watering: Water the soil abundantly until plenty of water flows out of the drainage holes, to evenly moisten the soil, always from above, never by immersion, using a fine-spouted watering can.
For watering tips, consult the watering guide.
Allow the top layer of soil to dry between watering (to confirm if the plant needs water, touch the soil with your fingers); it has a moderate water consumption.
If there is a tray under the Bonsai, never leave any water in it (to avoid root rot).
There is no advantage to misting the leaves; only do so on days you fertilize and if the fertilizer is specific for foliar application, but ensure the leaves dry by night to prevent fungi.
Nutrition: From February to September, with a base plan composed of a complete fertilizer (Fertil Bonsai Humic, or Green & Gold Bonsai Organic or Biogold), and a biostimulant throughout the year (Bio Bonsai Activ), which can also be combined with other products from our range.
Detailed information on how to combine these products with others from our range, or for a more specific nutrition plan, please consult the complete nutrition plan guide.
Pruning: Prune to keep the shape as "short" as possible during Spring. This way, flowers and fruits will develop "close to the canopy." Once flowers start to appear, avoid cutting them.
For pruning tips, consult the pruning and defoliation guide.
Transplanting: With Bonsai Leafy Soil in February, before budding starts.
Details about transplanting, post-transplant care, and specific fortifiers you can use can be found in the transplanting guide.
Wiring: They can be wired at the end of Autumn or during Winter, always after leaf fall.
For wiring instructions, consult the wiring guide.
