In this sheet, we provide you with the main general care instructions for your Bonsai.
Location: (Depends on the species; if you cannot identify it, send us a photo to "dr.bonsai")
Indoor: As close as possible to a window with plenty of light (without curtains or blinds), where it receives 2 to 3 hours of direct sunlight per day (ideally early or late in the day). Rotate the tree 180° weekly, avoid air conditioning or heat sources very close to the Bonsai.
Outdoor: Outdoors, where it receives 2 to 3 hours of direct sunlight per day (ideally in the morning or late afternoon), protected from strong winds and frost.
Dual Location: There are species that, due to their adaptability characteristics, can live both outdoors and indoors (provided they are very exposed to light, sunlight, and no air conditioning).
Watering: Water the soil abundantly until plenty of water comes out of the drainage holes, to moisten the soil evenly, always from above never by immersion, using a fine rose watering can.
For watering tips, consult the watering technical sheet.
Let the surface layer of the soil dry between each watering (to confirm if the plant needs water, touch the soil with your fingers).
If you have a tray under the Bonsai, never leave any water in it (to avoid root rot).
There is no benefit to misting the leaves; only do so on days when you fertilize and if the fertilizer is specific for foliar application, but ensure the leaves are dry by night to avoid fungi.
Nutrition: From February to October/November, with a base plan consisting of a complete fertilizer (Fertil Bonsai Humic, or Green & Gold Bonsai Organic or Biogold), and a biostimulant (Bio Bonsai Activ) from February to October outdoors, and all year indoors, which can also be combined with other products from our range.
Detailed information on how to combine these products with others from our range, or for a more specific nutrition plan, consult the complete nutrition plan technical sheet.
Pruning: "Maintenance" (new growths) whenever the plant deviates from the original shape and "Transformation" (old branches) at the beginning of Spring or early Autumn.
For pruning tips, consult the pruning and defoliation technical sheet.
Transplanting: Every 2 years, with a specific Bonsai substrate suitable for the species in question, ideally in the next season after acquiring the Bonsai.
Jan./Feb./Mar.: Outdoor and Dual location*
Apr./May/June: Indoor species
*Before the start of new budding.
Details about transplanting, post-transplant care, and specific strengthening products you can use, consult the transplant technical sheet.
