Produced from high-strength steel (HRC 54-56), in two ranges: Carbon Steel (with a small amount of Chromium to prevent Rust) and Stainless Steel (with 13% Chromium, the maximum level required to be considered Stainless Steel, which prevents rust formation).
The quality of the steel provides sufficient strength for cutting tools, while simultaneously offering the ideal "smoothness" for easy sharpening.
