Common Name: Citrus Kinzu

Scientific Name: Citrus Kinzu

Characterization: Originating from Asia, it belongs to the Rutaceae family, and is highly appreciated in Bonsai and as an ornamental plant due to the abundance of flowers and fruits, and their small size.

It has evergreen leaves, oval but long, about 3 cm in length by 1 cm in width, of a dark green shade, its growth is slow and we must be very careful when handling the plant, as it emits very strong thorns.

Location: In Mediterranean and mild climates, it should live outdoors all year round as long as it is protected from strong winds and frost, requiring at least 2 to 3 hours of direct sunlight, and should be rotated 180° weekly.

In areas with harsher winters, it is advisable to protect it during the coldest months, in an indoor area but without any type of climate control (e.g., a sunroom), near a window well exposed to the sun with a minimum of 2 to 3 hours, and it should be rotated 180° weekly.

Watering: Water the soil abundantly until plenty of water comes out through the drainage holes, in order to uniformly moisten the soil, always from above never by immersion, using a watering can with fine nozzles.

Tips about watering, see the watering technical sheet watering.

Allow the surface layer of the soil to dry slightly between each watering (to confirm if the plant already needs water, touch the soil with your fingers).

If you have a dish under the Bonsai, never leave any water in it (to prevent the roots from rotting).

There is no advantage in misting the leaves, only do so on the days when you fertilize and if the fertilizer is for foliar application, but ensure the leaves dry by night to avoid fungi.

Nutrition: From February to October/November, with a base plan composed of a complete fertilizer (Fertil Bonsai Humic, or Green & Gold Bonsai Organic or Biogold), and a biostimulant (Bio Bonsai Activ), which can also be combined with other products from our range.

Detailed information on how to combine these products with others from our range or for a more specific nutrition plan, consult the complete nutrition plan technical sheet.

Pruning: Let grow 6 to 8 leaves, then reduce back to the first leaves.

Tips on pruning, see the pruning and defoliation technical sheet.

Transplanting: With Terra Bonsai Folhosas in February/March, with strong partial defoliation.

Details about transplanting, post-transplant care, and specific fortifiers you can use can be found in the transplanting technical sheet.

Wiring: Can be wired all year round.

Guidance on wiring, see the wiring technical sheet.
