The Mulberry Bonsai is an outdoor plant.
Common Name: Mulberry
Scientific Name: Morus sp.
Characterization: Belongs to the Moraceae family and most species originate from Asia.
Medium/large deciduous tree with light green leaves, which can be rounded or lobed. Highly valued for its fruits and autumn coloration.
Location: Outdoors, where it receives 2 to 3 hours of direct sunlight per day (ideally in the morning or late afternoon), protected from strong winds and frost. It is very hardy, but it's common for the leaves to appear sunburned in mid-summer.
Watering: Has a high water consumption, and although resistant to the sun, the leaves dehydrate easily.
Water the soil abundantly until a lot of water comes out of the drainage holes, in order to evenly moisten the soil, always watering from above never by immersion, using a watering can with fine holes.
Tips about watering, consult the watering technical sheet watering.
Allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between each watering (to check if the plant needs water, touch the soil with your fingers).
If you have a tray under the Bonsai, never leave any water in it (to prevent the roots from rotting).
There is no advantage in misting the leaves; only do this on days when you fertilize and if the fertilizer is for foliar application, but ensure the leaves dry by nightfall to avoid fungi.
Nutrition: From February to September/October, follow a basic plan composed of a complete fertilizer (Fertil Bonsai Humic, or Green & Gold Bonsai Organic or Biogold), and a biostimulant (Bio Bonsai Activ), which can also be combined with other products from our range.
Detailed information on how to combine these products with the rest of our range, or for a more specific nutrition plan, consult the complete nutrition plan technical sheet.
Pruning: Due to the large leaf size, we must be very careful not to let them elongate. Usually, after the first leaf, we immediately perform "Metsumi".
Whenever the plant is healthy, it can be defoliated in mid-summer.
Tips about pruning, consult the pruning and defoliation technical sheet.
Transplanting: With Terra Bonsai Folhosas in February, before budding starts. Perform a formative pruning together with the transplant to hydraulically balance the plant.
Details about transplanting, post-transplant care, and specific fortifiers you can use can be found in the transplant technical sheet.
Wiring: Preferably at the end of winter or during defoliation.
Instructions about wiring can be found in the wiring technical sheet.
