Prunus Spinosa Bonsai of 12 Years
The Prunus Spinosa belongs to the Rosaceae family native to Europe.
It is a Bonsai with deciduous leaves, oval-shaped about 5 cm long, white flowers that can produce a dark blue fruit, contrasting with the dark and rough bark.
The Prunus Spinosa Bonsai is an outdoor plant.
Common Name: Prunus Spinosa
Scientific Name: Prunus Spinosa
Characterization: Species native to Europe and Western Asia, belonging to the Rosaceae family.
This bonsai is deciduous, known for its dense dark green foliage and sharp thorns. During Spring, it produces small white flowers that turn into edible fruits, black to bluish in color, known as "sloes".
It is also appreciated as a garden plant for its ability to form dense thorny thickets, making it ideal for natural fences.
Location: Outdoors, where it receives 2 to 3 hours of direct sunlight per day (ideally in the morning or late afternoon), protected from strong winds and frost.
Watering: Water the soil abundantly until a lot of water comes out through the drainage holes, to evenly moisten the soil, always from above never by immersion, using a watering can with fine nozzles.
Tips about watering, consult the watering technical sheet.
Allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly between each watering (to check if the plant needs water, touch the soil with your fingers).
If you have a tray under the Bonsai, never leave any water in it (to prevent the roots from rotting).
There is no advantage in spraying the leaves; only do so on days when you fertilize and if the fertilizer is for foliar application, but make sure the leaves dry by nightfall to avoid fungi.
Nutrition: From February to October/November, with a base plan composed of a complete fertilizer (Fertil Bonsai Humic, or Green & Gold Bonsai Organic or Biogold), and a biostimulant (Bio Bonsai Activ), which can also be combined with other products from our range.
Detailed information on how to combine these products with the rest of our range, or for a more specific nutrition plan, consult the complete nutrition plan technical sheet.
Pruning: Let 5 to 6 leaves grow, then reduce back to the first leaves.
Tips about pruning, consult the pruning and defoliation technical sheet.
Repotting: With Terra Bonsai Folhosas in January/February, before budding.
Details about repotting, post-repotting care, and specific fortifiers you can use, consult the repotting technical sheet.
Wiring: Can be wired all year round, but it is somewhat brittle—usually wiring is done at the end of Winter or in Summer along with training pruning and/or partial/total defoliation.
Instructions about wiring, consult the wiring technical sheet.
